Why Are Thin People Not Fat?
2009-02-03 Tuesday | 11:20 pm
I've just watched the fascinating BBC programme Why Are Thin People Not Fat?. They gave all sorts of reasons, and then concluded that fat people shouldn't feel discouraged about losing weight as even a little weight loss is good for your health.

New Doctor actor to be announced

New Doctor actor to be announced
I wondered why there was another Doctor Who "Confidential" (the behind the scenes show) on BBC1 at 5:35pm tonight. The TV listings guide says it's a retrospective of the 10 Doctors so far, so I'm guessing the announcement will be right at the end ...
For my friends not able to receive BBC1 live, I'm sure the news will be splashed all over everywhere (except
bellanna's journal because she doesn't care) within seconds of the name being said.
Edit: It's Matt Smith.

Steak Diane and Mandarin Cheesecake
2008-11-22 Saturday | 09:23 pm

Mandarin Cheesecake
Yesterday Sandi and I watched Gordon Ramsay's live cookalong on TV. It had a vague 70's theme, starting with prawn cocktail. Today for dinner we made the main course of Steak Diane and dessert of Mandarin Cheesecake. The steak was nice, though there were a couple of bits we would tweak for next time, for example the shallots needed to be softened more. The cheesecake was very straightforward to make and very tasty. Yum!

Einstein and Eddington
2008-11-21 Friday | 03:23 pm
Or, as the Radio Times says, "What David Tennant Did Next", though that's not strictly true as he's still filming Doctor Who and found time for Hamlet, this (Saturday evening, BBC2), and other projects.
New Scientist has a great review, including this alternate visioning of Einstein as Sméagol/Gollum (played by Andy Serkis):
Einstein is more tricksy, quirky, scruffy [and] in split-personality Sméagol/Gollum mode [...] "Ordered clockwork it is, precious." "No, no, time is relative, gravity bends us it does." "Light doesn't bend, light is our friend." "Nasty wicked light! Light tricks us it does, gravity bends us." "Absolute." "Relative." "Absolute." "Relative!"

The Genesis of Doctor Who
2008-11-20 Thursday | 05:51 pm
The BBC have recently published on-line a selection of documents and photographs from 1962 and 1963: The Genesis of Doctor Who. If you are struggling to read the scanned Courier font text, then look for the "Plain text version" link on every page. Fascinating.
